We wondered what the implications would be of a second Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to crash — in less than six months, no less. Well, now we are finding out that action isn’t just being taken by a single airline, but an entire country.
Reports have indicated that China has asked for all of its airlines to temporarily suspend operations of the Boeing 737 MAX, effective immediately. While there have been no official statement from the Chinese authorities, a report by Caijing cites an unidentified industry source.
Bloomberg, citing Caijing, reports that China has asked domestic operators to ground their 737 MAX aircraft. While we have yet been unable to officially confirm such, this is the number of 737 MAX flights above China now vs. the same time last week. https://t.co/TE7hHmsyB3 pic.twitter.com/BBjofQeXG8

China has 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft delivered across a handful of airlines. While the investigation is ongoing, if true, this would be a blow to Boeing and the MAX program.
There have been a lot of questions surrounding the safety of 737 MAXs and the comfort level of passengers on those planes. I’m sure those passengers won’t feel any better now that China is suspending operations of the fleet.
This story is actively unfolding…
