Both Kimpton and IHG have responded directly to worried customers who feel they are losing their favorite boutique brand:

IHG did not become one of the world’s largest hotel operators by alienating its customers or denigrating successful businesses. Kimpton may not change much within IHG. IHG spokeswoman Zoe Bird confirms that the company operates all its brands separately and would keep Kimpton distinct. “That’s the approach we take with all of our brands,” she said. “We nurture the brands.”

As someone who can now use my IHG points for Kimpton stays, I’m pretty psyched. Additionally, I’m of the mindset that IHG wanted to break-into the boutique hotel business and I don’t see them turning Kimpton into a fancy Holiday Inn or Crowne Plaza…they want a boutique chain and will likely maintain most of the quirks we love at Kimpton.
